The frustrating dance happens every year: set a goal, measure the wrong things, or forget about it completely. It’s normal when you’re trying to do something new, because you need to find what works.
However, if you’re trying to hit a bigger revenue target, you may need to do a lot more than you originally thought. Achieving more revenue, a bigger team and more happiness doesn’t just mean doing more of what you’re doing; it means learning to prioritise, stop focusing on certain things, and in some cases breaking your methods completely.
You may not even like the idea of scaling. It might sound too ‘businessy’ and ‘sleazy’ to you.
Fact is though, even if you just wanted to maintain what you have, inflation happens every single year. If you don’t actively try to scale, even by a little, you will shrink instead.
